Our History
"Historic" Growth
The church grew and in 1980 it purchased it's first building, the historic Lyric Theater in downtown Stuart. The Lyric was built in the 1920s as a silent movie house, and today it hosts dramas and musicals. But in the 80s it was abandoned and the church purchased it as a meeting place. During this time church continued to grow spiritually and numerically.
Transition to Calvary Chapel
In 1998, Pastor Sid retired. Pastor Larry Sarver, then an Associate Pastor, was chosen as the new Lead Pastor. In 2001, Pastor Larry led the congregation through the process of affiliating with the Calvary Chapel movement. Today, Pastor Larry continues to lead the church, which was officially renamed Calvary Chapel Palm City in 2003.
Humble Beginnings
Calvary Chapel Palm City began in 1975 as a small gathering of like-minded Christians who first met in the Howard Johnson Hotel in Stuart. This small group of believers faithfully prayed for God to send them a pastor. God answered those prayers when He led the church's first pastor, Pastor Bill Fielding, to lead this group. Pastor Bill served from 1975-1982. At that time the church was named New Life in Christ.
Building Project
Services were held at the Lyric for a little over 8 years until Pastor Bill retired in 1982. In his place, Sid Blake, a member of the congregation, was chosen as the new pastor. Pastor Sid served from 1982-1998. During his tenture, the church purchased its existing property, built its current building, and moved in.
Recent History
Since 2003, the church has continued to add staff, ministries, and has helped hundreds of people become fully committed followers of Jesus! As the church approaches 50 years of ministry (1975-2025), in 2024 the board of directors voted to begin a process of remodeling the building and rebranding its digital presence to prepare for many more years of faithful ministry to the community.
